 The California Academic Performance Index (API) is mandated by the Public Schools Accountability Act of 1999. Every California public school will be ranked based on student performance.

The API is a numeric index (or scale) that ranges from a low of 200 to a high of 1000. The statewide API performance target for all schools is 800.

The new index gives communities an objective way to measure a school's academic success.

As stated above, the API ranking for schools provides a great numerical value in understanding how good a school is preparing for your child for the next level.
